Turkey 2007-09 Away Kit
Last year Nike and Turkey unveiled a new design for their away kits. Now this is always a big deal, however this time around was more shocking than anything else as the away kit went from being the traditional red to solid white.
I really like this kit because it is simple and extremely nice looking with the mix of colors. But I have no idea where the light blueish green on the collar comes from. Maybe one of you can tell me, but I know it does not match the National colors of Turkey so I’m lost as to where it came from. On a side note it looks great on this kit with the contrast of white and the Turkey National Flag on the left chest. Overall a great looking kit that deserves 4 out of 5 stars. Great work Nike and Turkey.
Update: SL reader ‘linda’ writes in: “you said you didn’t know what the light blue color around the neck was about as it didn’t appear on the flag. that blue is turquoise and is known as turkish blue. it’s like italy’s blue or netherlands’ orange…”
Thanks for the assist linda!”

the blue is turqiouse and comes from the ottoman empire turquoise means turkish blue
THE COLOUR IS NAMED TURKUAZ IN TURKISH TURQUOISE IN FRENCH AND TÜRKIS IN GERMAN AND IS NAMED AFTER THE TURKISH NATION.THATS WHERE IT COMES FROM SO THEY0 WILL HAVE THE MOST AUTHENTIC KITCOLOUR AS ANY TEAM ELSE.
Thanks! I appreciate the knowledge, it makes more sense to me now as to why they have the color in there. I knew there had to be more to it.
The Turquoise like mentioned before is the Azure colour most often associated with Turkey from the Ottoman era. From decorative works in architecture to the Turquoise blue coasts of the Turkish Riviera.
But to be more specific, i think this sudden addition of the Turquoise colour is in support of the new ‘Turquality’ promotional project, launched by the Ministry of the of Culture & Tourism of Turkey, aims to globally promote and establish a brand image of Quality Turkish produce. And obviously the Euro 2008 is a great opportunity to establish this brand image.
I’m glad you like the kit, despite the fact alot of other Turks hate it, i for one think its cool.

Really nice kit. Simple and meaningful.
About the colour; it was produced by the Ottoman artists, to paint the tiles covering the buildings. Produced by adding an amount of blue colour into glass-green colour. The name of it comes from the meaning of “Turk” or “Turkish” in French (Turquoise). After those years which the color was invented in, besides the art of tile-making, it was used to paint porcelain products such as plates, vases, etc.
